Ecocide (Scotland) Bill – Parliamentary Update
The Scottish Parliament’s Presiding Officer has written to the Net Zero, Energy and Transport Committee regarding the next steps for the Ecocide (Scotland) Bill.
In the letter, the Parliamentary Bureau confirmed that it considered the Committee’s correspondence and the options available for progressing the Bill at Stage 2 during the remainder of the current parliamentary session. Taking into account the Committee’s workload and the limited time left in this session of Parliament, the Bureau agreed not to propose an alternative approach for the Bill’s Stage 2 consideration.
As a result, the Ecocide (Scotland) Bill will not progress further in this parliamentary session. The Committee has indicated that it will reflect on possible future approaches to legislation in this area in its legacy report.
